How Does SEO Work?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  Think of SEO like the road that connects people with where they want to go.  In terms of your business, you’re the destination.  The people in the cars are your potential customers.  If the roads don’t take cars to where you are, you’re not going to get traffic.  That’s about all there is to it.

So how do we build roads, put up road signs, and direct traffic to get to you?  By optimizing your website.  The process to actually optimize your website is very in depth and by no means can I write it all down here.  It’s also important to note that the technology in which we build roads is always changing.  We are constantly evolving the best practices and most efficient ways to get people to your destination.  There is more than one way to build a road.

If someone comes up to you and says I can move all the roads and get you all the traffic, RUN.  It’s impossible to guarantee to get you to #1 on Google without running ads.  That’s gimmicky marketing and it’s gross.  Don’t fall for it.

The unfortunate truth is that SEO is variable.  We know what works well, but the results cannot be guaranteed.  The algorithms that google (and other search engines) use are beasts.  They are not a one-size-fits-all and they are absolutely not straightforward.

The processes that I put in for clients differ, and the results differ too.  What I can tell you is that SEO takes time to cultivate.  It’s a slow process but once it starts to pick up speed you’ll see it grow and grow.  The biggest difference is the length of time that it takes to start to see said growth.  However, there are plenty of things that you can do to encourage that process to speed up.

The reason I offer my services in the way that I do is strategic.

My a la carte services are meant to provide a solid foundation for your website.  It’s like the foundation of the house.  It makes sure that any of the future work you do can be held up.

The Write Way To Nurture is the upkeep.  This service keeps your website (or house if we’re still using the analogy), looking good and in tip-top shape.  Search engines love to see websites that are consistently updated (hello e-commerce) and blogging works great for that.  Blogging also gets bonus points for making your site bigger, adding more links, and adding more words.

So the truth is, no one is sitting around going hmmm I think I want LESS traffic on my website.  If you’re ready to level up your SEO, please check out my a la carte services and The Write Way To Nurture.
