Here’s how I explain SEO in a way that won’t confuse you:

Obviously Google isn’t a human, so it doesn’t fully understand what is on your website. SEO helps communicate with google so it can better understand what your website is about so it can better organize the results. Remember, Google’s main goal is to connect people with what they’re looking for and SEO just helps that process along.

SEO sounds good, but without an understanding of what it is, there’s no point in investing in it.

First and foremost, SEO is an investment. It’s not a quick fix or a way to get more sales today. SEO is about driving more traffic to your site over time.

By adding your keywords to your website in a variety of different ways, we tell search engines (like google) that your site should show up when people search those keywords.

SEO takes time to cultivate and develop. It requires dedication and continued support. It’s not a quick fix or a way to generate traffic immediately.

BUT, SEO does create long lasting growth. It earns dividends over time. It generates traffic organically.

For example, the website you are currently on (yes this one) gets the same number of visits from one blog post from about a year ago as the home page does. That’s the work of SEO.
