How Website Design Impacts Credibility
People automatically associate value with your website. That means that if your website looks bomb, interesting, and expensive, they’ll think that your product/service is VALUABLE. There’s a good chance they’ll even expect it to be more expensive than it actually is. And of course, this works both ways…
// Story Time
I’m in the process of planning a wedding and I am incredibly excited about the wedding dress part. So I’ve been looking at wedding dress boutiques near me and the brands that they carry. I found a few brands I like, and a boutique that carried all of them. But their website looked like someone’s high school computer class project from the year 2006. It only looked good on desktop, had a bright purple background, tiny photos, and no dynamic design. So without even realizing it, my brain went “Hm, I don’t really want to go looking for a wedding dress in a dated boutique”. And then I realized that this was just their website and the boutique probably wasn’t dated, but it was still hard to get past that. I was connecting the look and feel of their website with the experience I was expecting there.
And that’s EXACTLY what your site visitors are doing too.
When you DIY your site or pay $40 for a website, it’s going to reflect that.
Your poorly designed website is hurting your impression and credibility.
In fact, 94% of users DON’T trust poorly designed or outdated websites¹. That means that if your site is outdated, almost ALL of your site visitors are going to a competitor site simply because they don’t trust you based on your website.
I’ve seen clients increase their prices when they invest in a custom website. And it WORKS. I’ve seen clients increase their traffic when they invest in a custom website. Because it WORKS. And I’ve seen clients increase their sales when they invest in a custom website. BECAUSE IT WORKS.
People are always going to connect looks with value. But the fortunate part of that is that you don’t have to do much to improve your perceived value… All you have to do is ensure that you have a good-looking site.
