Why People Are Unsubscribing From Your List Is Good News
I talk to a lot of business owners who are concerned about losing their audience. This is a valid concern: no one wants their voice to be less heard. But losing some of your audience is actually a great thing. Here’s why…
When your audience starts to thin out, you know that the people in it are the people who really care. These are the people who want to hear what you have to say and are on your team no matter what. These loyal listeners are sticking around because they value you and want to consume your content. This is about quality over quantity.
As you thin out your audience, it’s a good opportunity to look at what the people that are leaving have in common and what the people staying have in common. This likely will allow you to have some intel on who you are marketing to.
Having people leave your audience is an opportunity to test out new things. Since we’ve established that the people that are sticking around are committed to you, these can be a sort of guinea pig audience. Surveys, polls, and questionnaires will provide you with feedback about what these people want from you. Use this information to your advantage to narrow down who you are, what you provide, and the best way to do so.
The important thing to remember is that the people who are sticking around want to hear what you have to say. There are many others exactly like them that are looking for you. Keep providing value.
