Website Designer Hobbies: How I Add Fun To My Life

This time of year is so f*cking serious and depressing. Diet pills 🤭 new years resolutions 🤢 and all the shame of what we didn't accomplish last year 🤮

That's a big fat no from me.

So instead I'm going to share some of the ways that I add playfulness and fun into my life by sharing my hobbies in the hopes that it inspires you to be a bit more lighthearted.

How I keep myself busy and add more fun to my life:

1. Foster Cats

My fiancé, Zev, and I have been fostering for over three years now and it's extremely rewarding. It has it's poopy moments (pun intended) but getting to watch kittens grow and cats become more social is always rewarding.

2. Nerding Out

I've been playing a nerdy card game called Dominion since I was a very small child. My childhood best friend play-tested the game so we always had access to the newest cards. I lost touch with the game but during the pandemic I picked it back up and found an incredible online community too. I fully embraced my inner nerd and started moderating online tournaments for Dominion over a year ago.

3. Other Board Games

If you're just getting started playing more nerdy board games, I highly recommend Azul, Splendor, and Viticulture as a great introduction.

4. Backpacking

This year I went on a few backpacking trips, one of which was with my 74 year old Grammy. She's a rockstar.

5. Sewing

Remember that awesome Grammy from #4? She's the one who taught me how to sew. I spent some time away from the sewing machine but picked it back up a few years ago. I've really been enjoying fine tuning my skills and creating more.

6. Home Projects

I'm absolutely guilty of saying to Zev at 6:30pm on a Tuesday that we should paint a wall and build a garden. Currently the living room features a slightly broken, sanded down table that I'm in the process of refinishing. I keep Zev on his toes, what can I say!

I hope that this list brought you some joy, some inspiration, and some fun. If you have a super fun hobby, leave a comment. I'd love to hear from you.
