5 Things To Include In Every Blog Post

You know you should be writing blogs, but if you are writing them aimlessly without any strategy, then the purpose they serve is not applicable.

Using this checklist will help you ensure your blogs are optimized and doing what they are supposed to be doing.

  1. A catchy title
Using numbers or power words makes the title irresistible.  Have you heard of clickbait?  We want some level of clickbait, without being over the top.  Think integrity clickbait.  The goal is to get people to click on your article because the title is SO catchy they want to read more.

  2. An image
This is all about shareable content.  An image delivers a clearer understanding of what the article is about.  It also generates interest.  Plus, bonus points for shareability.

  3. Links

    (Externally)
Linking to other resources and sites builds credibility for your own site.  It also means that when someone is looking for one of those resources, your site is a part of those results. (It won’t be the number one result, but it’ll be somewhere in those results.)

    (Internally)

The reason for internal links is twofold. Firstly, you can make sales. If someone is visiting your blog to learn something and you talk about a product you sell, like a guide to learning who your Ideal Client is, you are advertising your own product and potentially generating sales. Secondly, it keeps them on your site longer. This relates to the first point, but it also means that they are getting more familiar with who you are and what you do. (Ex: Click here to read about why you should also send your blog out to your email list)

  4. Unique link
Make sure the link to the blog is actually relevant to the blog.  Most blogging sites will automatically generate a link that looks something like this: sequoiacraig.com/239582 which is pretty useless when a search engine is trying to find relevant information.  Be sure to change the link to something like this: sequoiacraig.com/5-blogging-tips

  5. Tags
Don’t forget your tags! Your tags help boost your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which helps people find your information. Using tags that are relevant and important always helps. I always like to think about what someone looking for this article would search for. Don’t be afraid to get creative. And if you want more advice about finding good tags, my keyword guide is a great place to start.
