What My Typical Day Looks Like As A Santa Cruz Website Designer

My alarm clock goes off based on whatever time my fiance, Zev, is supposed to be at work.  It’s always early, so I just go with it.  After I get up, pet some foster cats, and walk downstairs I always find my way to the coffee maker.

While I drink coffee I usually wake up by playing a game (or three) of Dominion.

After I am all Dominion’d out, I open my computer and check my email.  If there’s anything urgent or quick that I can take care of, I do.  Otherwise, I move through my client list considering what each client will need from me this week.  I like to keep a list in my google docs that is my running to-do list so I’ll update that.  I divide the tasks into what I’ll do each day so I can manage my tasks most effectively.  If I have extra time, I move onto the following day’s tasks.  These tasks range from website design projects to SEO projects to posting an Instagram story.

Most of the time Zev makes breakfast so I’ll take a break to eat breakfast.  Afterward, I get ready for the day and then move on to client work.  I order the day’s work from most urgent to least urgent and begin working.

On this particular day, I started by scheduling some blog posts for a client.  Then I reviewed some material for a website project.  After, I sent one invoice and two proposals out.  Finally, I checked in on my copywriter.  Those were all the things I needed to do today so I started looking at the rest of the week to see if there was anything I could take on to lighten the load.

This week is a bit lighter because I’m in between website clients so it’s more mellow.  After finishing my tasks and a few other client tasks for later in the week, I decided to move on to the SCD projects.  These are the things that help grow my business and keep things moving.

In this case, one of the first things I tackled was next week’s blog post and newsletter.  I spent some time writing it.  After I finished the article and edited it, I took a break for lunch.

I recently started meal prepping so I was excited to try the meal of the week: roasted veggies, brown rice, and a tahini dressing.

After my bomb lunch, I went back to my blog and started plugging it all in.  You might be surprised by the amount of work that goes into blogging!  This is why I created The Write Way To Nurture (shameless plug).  Ok, back to the regularly scheduled programming.

“You might be surprised by the amount of work that goes into blogging!”

Once my blog and email were done, I moved on to my new secret project which I’m not going to give away here.  I stopped working on that at around 3 pm and decided that was a good stopping place.

I washed some dishes, went outside for a bit (one of the perks of being a website designer based in Santa Cruz is that I often work outside), and then took a nap.  I usually can’t nap so I was really excited that I successfully pulled off a glorious nap.

Zev came home from work and we began to talk about our days.  Dinner was easy because we had leftover enchiladas from the night before.

After dinner, we watched an episode of Ted Lasso and got ready for bed.  Finally, Zev set his alarm for the next day.
