How does a website make money?
Ad Revenue
You know when you find a recipe that looks really good but then comes the, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." an entire story which takes longer to scroll through than the entirety of the first three episodes of Star Wars (yes, I do mean 4, 5, & 6)!! There’s a reason they do that - on blogs, not Star Wars. The reason is that the longer you spend on a page the more Ad Revenue they earn. You spend time scrolling or actually reading it and the ads play on the sidelines collecting views for the site owner. Sure, it’s a nuisance, but it earns $$$.
Running ads is most common among bloggers. If I went to a coaching website, and it had ads, I’d definitely be put off by it. So unless you’re sharing your favorite lemon bar recipe, save the ads for the bloggers.
Sales!
A website generates more eyes on your business. This is due to SEO, but more on that later.
These new eyes are people that are searching for things that your website is related to, or provides (aka qualified leads). That means that if your website is actually doing what it’s supposed to, you have the opportunity to make sales from these views!! Regardless of if you are selling a service or a product, these eyes are potential clients and sales.
If you’re a service provider, this is why it’s a great idea to have an email opt in or passive offers. You want to have a way to provide them with more information or value. An email opt in can be used to upsell and nurture leads. Just because they haven’t bought yet doesn’t mean that they won’t later.
However you want it to…
This is the beauty of a website. You can actually use it to generate money however you’d like!! For example…
You make money on Youtube Ads so you create a website to capture new attention which results in more views and Ad Revenue.
You are a coach selling a 3k/mo package. You use your website to collect emails from interested people so you can share more about your service over time and nurture those leads. Some of these leads end up signing on in six months.
You are a web designer and you use your website to generate leads through SEO which is what people are searching for. You also offer an SEO service. You also have a guide that you use to collect leads which you can nurture through your newsletter so that you can sign on clients to invest in their SEO.
Speaking of the SEO Guide… This baby is currently free but on August 18th it will cost money to access. If you have a website that you’d like to generate more traffic so you can generate more money, be sure to snag it this week.
And if you’re looking to invest in your SEO so that you can better control how you show up in search engines simply send me an email with the words “I’m interested in your SEO packages”.
